Desert Trip

Friday was one of the busiest and most rewarding days I have ever spent. After breakfast we piled into 3 cars, two vans built on Russian jeep bodies and one Land Cruiser type vehicle, and headed out into the desert. There are no real roads, though trails lead towards the most common destinations, but to avoid dust from the leading car the drivers usually spread out over the desert.

I would not have believed that the desert could hold such a wealth of sites and history. We probably were never as far as 60 km away from Sainshand, but saw historical, cultural, ecological, religious, and archeological sites that were eye-openers to me, much less the children.

Fossil remains are often found around the red sand
